Keyboard shortcuts for Hootsuite

Log into Hootsuite. Click Add Stream then select Search and enter these filters in the search bar with the keyword you want to track.

Find real humans, not spam and sales messages

Social media is filled with spam and vendors selling products, making it hard to see actual customer conversations. To get past this, you can tailor your search in Hootsuite to only show posts without links. This reveals actual human conversations—such as people talking about what fashion products they like, car enthusiasts sharing what accessories they’d buy, and other little communities.
To find posts without links, use the following filter after a keyword in hootsuite: -filter:links
Examplecoffee -filter:links

Find social posts with links—filtering out chatter

On the other hand, you may want to only see posts that contain links (if you’re doing competitive research, for example).
To find posts with links, use the following filter after a keyword: filter:links
Examplecoffee filter:links

Find customers near you

To find conversations happening close to your physical location, use the following filter after a keyword: near:[location]
Examplecoffee near:Liverpool
(Of course, you would replace “Liverpool” with whatever city you’re searching for.)

Search social posts by language

If you want to find posts in a specific language, use your keyword, followed by “lang:” and the appropriate language code. So, if you want to search for Spanish speakers (language code “es”) searching for “café” that search would look like…
Examplecafé lang:es
This works for other languages as well (en, fr, zh-cn, and so on).

Search posts with questions

In Hootsuite, add a ? to your keyword and you’ll only see posts with questions. Whether you want to find customer questions you can easily resolve or need quick ideas for blog posts or social content, this filter can help you understand and engage with your customers better.
Examplebest coffee machine?
